“Fishing” is the property of PDI/DreamWorks. Copyright 1999.

When I first interviewed at Pacific Data Images (which became PDI/DreamWorks), the producers played some of their short films for me. These projects were the coolest thing I’d ever seen— I was hooked. Several years later, I started doing tests for “Fishing” on my own and eventually enlisted a small team to complete it. The whole process took about nine months between the ANTZ and Shrek feature productions.

“Fishing” was animated with the same tools we used to produce ANTZ. It is fully computer generated 3D, rendered out in a 2D watercolor style. It premiered at the SIGGRAPH Electronic Theater in 1999 and screened in festivals worldwide thru 2000:

Awards:

o Winner: Media Prize for Best Computer Animated Short and selected for "Best of Ottawa" tour - Ottawa International Animation Festival 2000, Ottawa, Canada
